SUMMARY:October Presentation : Diving into Loon Biology: Are We Silently Losing a Northern Icon?
DESCRIPTION:Talk: Diving into Loon Biology: Are We Silently Losing a Northern Icon?\nOctober 20, 2026 (Tuesday), 7:00PM\nLOCATION: Peter White Library, 217 N Front Street, Community Room, Lower Level\nPresenter: Korben Moelter, The Loon Project researcher, LWBA Board member\nThe echo of a Common Loon wail is a sound we are all familiar with. Whether it’s on a warm summer night in the northwoods or in the background of our favorite spooky movie. But what exactly does this call mean and how does it influence their life history?\nKorben Moelter, a researcher with The Loon Project and a recent graduate of Northern Michigan University, is working to answer that question. In this presentation, he will explore the history of Common Loon research, the challenges and rewards of collecting data in an unconventional field setting, and the current status of Common Loon populations across the Upper Midwest.\n
