Alger County Outing with the Hubingers
DATE: Saturday, June 20, 2026
ATTENDEES—This outing is for LWBA members only. Attendance will be capped at 4-5 high-clearance vehicles, or about 16 people. Try to ride with someone who has a high-clearance vehicle.
MEET-UP TIME: 8:00 am END – about 1 PM
MEET LOCATION: Chatham Co-op Grocery N5289 State Hwy 94, Chatham (corner of H01/Rock River Rd).
GUIDE(s): Mark and Joanie Hubinger
CONDITIONS: Please try to carpool with high-clearance vehicles if possible. The only real bathroom is at the CO-OP, which we can use when we meet in the morning. The trails are two-track, mostly slow driving and walking. It could be muddy. There might be a few ticks, skeeters, and a bear.
PLAN: We will visit the Limestone grasslands about six minutes south of Chatham. Hoping for Upland Sandpiper and Grasshopper Sparrow, plus more. Then head to the southwest corner of end of the Au Train basin for Warblers (had a Brewster’s Warbler there a couple of days ago). Shorebirds and cuckoo are good possibilities at the basin as well as Sora and other choice birds. Bring bug dope, water and snacks or a lunch.
CANCELATION: If conditions prevent a safe and enjoyable outing, the event will be canceled within ONE HOUR of the starting time via e-mail, text messages, and Facebook announcement.
