Birding the Dead River Mouth and Marshes

DATE: May 31, 2025

TIME: 7:30 am –  We will begin walking at 7:45 am.

ATTENDEES – Members and non-members are welcome, maximum of 20

MEET LOCATION: Location One – kayak launch parking lot across from Clark Lambros Beach. Location Two – Schneider Mill Court dead-end circle.

CONDITIONS: The trails will feature a combination of sand, dirt, asphalt, a little mud, uneven footing, and little shade. There are no bathrooms at location two.  Please bring water, a snack, sunscreen, and bug repellent. Wear sturdy shoes and rugged (LONG) pants. Please come prepared for the predicted weather.

EQUIPMENT: binoculars (we have extra, let us know), cell phone(for using eBird and Merlin), ears, and eyes. If you have a scope, that will be handy for this outing.

PLAN: We will cross over to the beach, walk to the river mouth, cross the bridge, and walk out to the sand bars near the ore dock. We will then cross the street and back over the bridge to bird the inlet pond and marshy areas behind the parking lot. THEN WE MOVE THE CARS! Park at Schneider Mill Court dead-end circle. We will use several trails to access the river and marshes.   Please do not play bird recordings. Please inform your guide if you leave early.  Important – Please review our birding guidelines.

CANCELATION: If conditions prevent a safe and enjoyable outing, the event will be canceled within ONE HOUR of the starting time via text messages and Facebook announcement.
