With a bit of snow and heavy rain in the preceding days, the prospects were dim for any such great day of early spring birding in Marquette. Still, anything can happen when you get a great group of Yooper birders together on a chilly Saturday morning.
They started with 22 people and identified 32 species, including an American Bittern, Peregrine Falcon, Common Loon, Pine and Palm warblers, five different woodpecker species, and golden- and ruby-crowned kinglets. The group toured the bog walk and then walked the loop around Presque Isle and several interior paths. Those who walked around Presque Isle were at it for about 5 1/2 hours. Great group, great time!

Registration is now open for the May 10th outing to Chocolay River Nature Preserve.
