TIME: 7:00 am in Marquette, 8:30 am at Seney NWR (rest area on Hwy 77)

MEET LOCATION: 7 AM – east of Marquette – meet and carpool from Chocolay fishing access on Hwy 28.  OR  meet at 8:30 AM at the Seney National Wildlife Refuge rest area on Hwy 77  – on the right headed south, look for the Native American buildings.

PLAN: attendees can meet at the Chocolay fishing access on HWY 28 at 7am and carpool to Seney; OR meet us at the Seney Rest Area on Hwy 77 at 8:30am.  We will hike the Pine Ridge Nature Trail from that location, then return to our cars and drive the wildlife drive, a 7-mile slow ride through the refuge.  As time allows, we will then take Driggs Rd off of HWY 28 and visit Pool C.  Next, drive to Munising for lunch at Falling Rock Cafe, then return to Marquette by 3pm.  Please do not play bird recordings. Please inform your guide if you leave early.  Important – Please review our birding guidelines.

CONDITIONS: the Pine Ridge Nature Trail consists of dirt, some roots and rocks,  some muck if it rains, some uneven footing, some shade, and full sun. The wildlife drive is paved and dirt, easy for any vehicle unless it rains heavily. Bathrooms will be port-a-johns; bring water, snack, sunscreen, and bug dope. Wear sturdy shoes and rugged (LONG) pants. Please come prepared for the predicted weather.

BIRDING – migration has begun. Shorebirds and warblers are moving south, and many summer residents are still hanging around.

CANCELATION:  if conditions prevent a safe and enjoyable outing, the event will be canceled within ONE HOUR of the starting time via text messages and Facebook announcement.
